Popular crossdresser Idris Okuneye Olanrewaju, popularly known as Bobrisky, has called on Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy to show mercy and secure the release of fellow entertainer Speed Darlington from police custody.
This plea stems from the ongoing legal drama between the two musicians, which led to Speed Darlington’s arrest and detention on November 27 for allegedly jumping bail related to a petition filed by Burna Boy.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Bobrisky expressed concern for Speed Darlington’s plight, highlighting the harsh realities of prison life. He suggested that financial constraints may make it even more unbearable for the detained singer.
While some high-profile detainees can secure better treatment by paying for a “VIP section” in Nigerian detention facilities, Bobrisky suggested that Speed Darlington may lack the resources to afford such privileges.
“I’m certain he doesn’t have the money to stay in the VIP section of the prison; it’s very expensive. Prison is not a nice place, and nobody deserves to be there unless truly guilty of something serious,” Bobrisky wrote.
The appeal adds a compassionate dimension to a case that has drawn widespread attention, especially due to the clash between two controversial figures in Nigerian entertainment. Bobrisky’s statement may be seen as an effort to encourage reconciliation rather than further division between the two parties.
Speed Darlington’s legal troubles began with allegations brought forth by Burna Boy, though details of the accusations remain unclear. The police arrested him after he failed to meet bail conditions, escalating the situation. Many fans and observers have since speculated about the nature of their fallout, but neither party has made extensive public statements about the matter.
Bobrisky’s intervention could potentially open a path for dialogue between the two artists, urging Burna Boy to use his influence and resources to grant Speed Darlington another chance.
In his plea, Bobrisky appealed not just to Burna Boy but also to public sensibilities around grace and second chances. “This industry is already tough enough. Speed Darlington may have made mistakes, but who doesn’t? Burna, please consider letting this go for peace’s sake,” the post continued.
